The Burren, Co. Clare, is one of those places that must be seen to be believed. But what is the Burren famous for? The Burren, Ireland, is renowned for its unique soluble rock landscape – a vast expanse of limestone pavements crisscrossed with deep cracks. It’s a geologist’s dream and a nature lover’s paradise.

Formation: When was The Burren formed? It dates to the Carboniferous period, about 350 million years ago.
Sea Level: How is The Burren above sea level? Despite being formed under ancient seas, tectonic activity has lifted it well above sea level.

In the heart The Burren you'll find the Burren Perfumery. You'll find a lovely little tea shop with all homemade scones, cakes, sandwiches and soup.
They also make their own soaps, creams and perfumes onsite, and depending on the day you visit you can see them making, packaging the stuff. There is also an award winning herb garden onsite. It is truly magical and worth the trip alone.
Ballyvaughan
Next up is Ballyvaughan, there is a lovely arts centre and of course the Aillwee Caves and the Poulnabrone Dolmen that attracts so many tourists every year. Gregan's Castle is another option for a bit to eat and J.R.R Tolkien was among their esteemed guests and rumour has it he was influenced by The Burren when writing The Lord of The Rings.
Doolin
Depending on which direction you go exactly, you might pass through Doolin, on the edge of The Burren. Super famous for their pubs, live Irish music in the summer and of course the Aran Islands. You'll have your choice of delicious restaurants to eat at.
Kinvara
Kinvara is a picturesque village that deserves a stop. Its colourful buildings and lively harbour make for great photo opportunities. Don't miss Dunguaire Castle, a restored 16th-century tower house on the shores of Galway Bay. Oranmore Castle
Just a bit further up the road, Oranmore Castle awaits. This beautifully preserved 15th-century castle is set against the backdrop of Galway Bay. It’s privately owned but open to visitors during the summer months. The castle and its grounds are perfect for a leisurely stroll and some fantastic photography. The castle is only 9 km outside of Galway city centre.

Now, what to do in Salthill, Co. Galway, once you’re there? Salthill is the seaside suburb of Galway City and a hub of activity and relaxation.
Salthill Galway Beach
Park up and go for a dip at Salthill Galway Beach. This Blue Flag beach is popular for swimming, sunbathing, and strolling along the promenade. The views across Galway Bay to the hills of Clare are breathtaking, especially at sunset.
